What Walkthru keeps, and why

Last updated October 6, 2026. Plain language on purpose. If something here is not clear, ask.

In one breath

Walkthru is a way for a trade to show a builder the work by walking through it and talking. We keep the recording, the words, and the list that came out of it, so both sides have the same record later. We do not sell anything about you, and we do not show your recordings to anyone you did not send them to.

Who runs it

Walkthru is made and run by Stratum, in Edmonton, Alberta. For anything about your information, email Walkthru Reply <brad.daoust@stratumgroup.io> or reply to any Walkthru text.

What we collect

  • Your phone number. It is your account. We text you sign-in codes and the messages you would expect: an ask, a walkthru sent back, a reminder.
  • Your name and company, and an email if you give one for copies.
  • The walkthrus you record: the video or audio, the words we heard in it, its first frame, and the frames taken from it for the printed sheet.
  • Where a walkthru was recorded, if your phone allows it. It is used to match the recording to the right home. Refusing is fine; the walkthru still works.
  • Who looked. When a walkthru or a link is opened, we note who and when. That is part of the record for both sides.
  • A trade's page. When you open a trade's page while signed in, that trade can see that your company looked, and when. On a free plan they only see that a builder looked. Your number is never shown to them; if they send you a walkthru, it comes from Walkthru.

Why

So the builder can see the site without driving to it, the trade can prove the work without waiting to be checked, and neither side has to argue later about what was said, shown or accepted. Everything we keep serves that purpose, and the counting below helps us serve it better.

What we count

To make Walkthru better we count how it is used: which pages are opened on which days, whether on a phone or a computer, the link or site that first brought you here, the steps of a recording (started, stopped, sent), which buttons get used, what is searched for, and errors your browser hits. It stays on Walkthru's own servers, it is only looked at as totals by the people who run Walkthru, and it is never sold or handed to an advertising or analytics company. If you are not signed in you are counted as a browser, not a person, and we never keep your internet address with it.

Who sees what

  • A walkthru you record for an ask is seen by the person who asked and the people at their company. The rest of your own walkthrus are yours.
  • A walkthru a trade sends to a builder becomes part of the builder's record as it was delivered. The trade keeps their own copy. Neither side can reach into the other's.
  • A share link shows one walkthru to whoever holds the link, until the person who made the link turns it off.
  • We do not sell your information, and we do not use your recordings to advertise anything.

Who else handles it

  • Texts go through Twilio and emails through Resend. They see the phone number or address and the message.
  • Turning speech into words and turning words into a list are done by our transcription and language-model providers. They process the audio and the words for that job and do not keep them.
  • Storage. Recordings and the database live on servers we rent. We are moving the recordings to storage in Canada, locked so that nothing can be altered or removed before its keep-until date.

How long

The record is kept. That is the point of it: a walkthru from year one is still there in year seven. Archiving takes something off a list; it does not delete it. If you want your name and number taken out of the record, ask, and we will do that. A walkthru that was delivered to a builder stays part of their record, with your name removed from it.

Texts

Reply STOP to any Walkthru text and we stop texting that number. Reply START to have them back. Emails and the site still work either way.

People on site

Whoever records a walkthru is responsible for telling the people around them. Say it out loud before you start. If a homeowner is present, ask them first, or wait.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to remove your name and number. Email Walkthru Reply <brad.daoust@stratumgroup.io>. If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, we say so at the top and by text. The date at the top is the date it last changed.
